It's become an essential part of the daily life of car owners. It was first designed around 20 years ago and is now one of the most popular innovations within the company. Pascaline is the head of Cross-Cutting Products at the Products division is taking us on an exploration to discover the story of this handy accessory.      In 2001, the Laguna II, an executive saloon that was designed to be a 'lifestyle vehicle", was launched into production. It was an era of incredible innovation, with an array of new features features which helped customers enjoy their car to the fullest.    However, the owners of these cars still had to use keys to open and close their doors. Renault engineers were determined that this was a major issue for many people.    In the end, they decided to include a contactless card into their vehicles and create a system that would enable motorists to open and start their cars by simply waving hands. The card key is now found in two of three Renault vehicles. Whether it's located in the ignition barrel or in the centre console the car will be unlocked when the card approaches and close automatically when it's removed. This is a genuine Renault remote control card (without blade). It comes individually packed and ready to be programmed using Abrites diagnostics for Renault/ Dacia software with the ProTAG programmer.    The design    Having a Renault key card or a car remote key could be a huge convenience in our daily lives. This allows the card to talk to your car. These chips can crack from normal use, and it's costly to replace or repair them at the dealer. We can repair or replace your Renault key card at a fraction of the dealership price.    The hands-free card was first introduced in 2001 on the Laguna II saloon, which was designed to embody the "lifestyle" car of the 21st century. But, despite a thorough design brief based on more than 6000 customer interviews that examined their lifestyles, habits, and expectations, Renault ran out of time to create prototypes and test every possible uses.    Bernard Dumondel was the product leader of Laguna II at the time. He used the hotel room key to unlock his car. Seeing that the key had tiny magnetic strips, he thought that it would be possible to create an auto key that operated in a similar way.    In the years that followed the card was hailed as a groundbreaking invention, and it is now available on two out of three Renault vehicles. While smartphones may be in the process of replacing it, Renault has chosen to harness these new capabilities without having the hands-free card go out of use.    The keyless entry system    The hands-free cards of Renault were an innovative piece of technology at its launch 20 years ago. Its design is the same, but the technology inside has seen a few upgrades to make it more user-friendly and less difficult to hack.    In the first place, it cannot be used to unlock the doors or start the engine from outside the vehicle, unless it is activated by the driver. This is because radio antennae "around the car" are set up to determine whether the key is inside or outside. The key will still work from a distance, allowing you to start the car's ignition but not to unlock the doors, and that's for your security.    The other thing to note is that the system's wireless remote control transmissions use a rolling code. This decreases the chance of someone stealing a control message and transmitting it again to gain access, but it does not completely eliminate the possibility.
